The first lecture was about an introductory to the course which is about Theories of Language Learning.I have realised that there are many theories and approaches dealing with the language learning. The second lecture was about one of the theories which is the behaviorism.I have learnt that behavorists believe in the idea that all behaviors are acquired through conditioned which it occurs through interaction with the enviornment.It has a belief that we were born with a blank mind,we can write whatever we want in it.they believe that our responses to the stimuli shape our behaviors.The idea of understand leads to repeat is one of their beliefs besides the conditioning (reward and punishment).Also i can differentiate between a second language and a foreign language .There were a lot of information that i did not know it before this lecture and now i got alot of benefits. The third one was a complementary to the previous one we had more knowledge about behaviorism by comparing it to the second theory which is the cognitive theory.It was a very interesting lecture because there was a compitition at the end of it.The questions were about what we have taken so far.This enhances the information that we gained.I have learnt the differences between performance and competence by giving us a real example of it that it occured during the lecture.In addition, i have learnt how LAD works in our mind and its relationship to the competence.Every one has competence in his/her mind but not the same goes to performance that is when someone has good marks in a language test but in real life cant speak a word in that language this is realeted to competence and performance that what i got from the example that doctor gave us. This somehow applies on me at some cicumstances. I also have learnt that cognitivism believes in mind and it comes up as a response to behaviorism,they came with different ideas about how to learn and acquire the language.They study the mind and how it obtains,processes and stores the information.The leader of this theory is Noam Chomesky,he proposed U.G that consists of two things parameters and principles.Each language has principles like verbs,nouns adjectives and adverbs but different parameters like prepositions,and articles.i have realised that Arabic language deals with the structural and descriptive linquistics but it works with the generative.
